If you don't add abilitys before gen 3 the metagame will crash because of this pokemon.

Im sure some of you might be familiar with the pokemon 'Slaking'. One of best non-legendary non-mega pokemon base stat wise.

These stats are based on it being lvl.100 with no evs what so ever. You can already see some really good stats from it.
Lets get this straight though.
Max attack slaking has 460 Attack (not base)That is a higher number then the special attack of mewtwo maxed. Its hp stat can run all the way to 504 giving it alot of tankness. You may say "OH, It has horrible special defense. I'll just focus blast it."
Not so fast. This pokemon lives both focus blast from both gengar and alakazam according to these calculations taken on https://pokemonshowdown.com/damagecalc/ .

252+ SpA Alakazam Focus Blast vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Slaking: 418-494 (82.9 - 98%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252+ SpA Gengar Focus Blast vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Slaking: 408-482 (80.9 - 95.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
Still a two hit ko though. Right? Even though slaking won't outspeed. This happens:

252+ Atk Slaking Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Gengar: 422-498 (161.6 - 190.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252+ Atk Slaking Return vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Alakazam: 399-471 (158.9 - 187.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO
Needless to say. This thing is a beast. You may think: How the hell do I stop this thing!? One answer...
Truant. Truant is the only ability slaking can get. This ability forces slaking to skip every other turn. So you could use protect or very stally pokemon to beat it. But if gen 3 doesn't have abilitys. I guess we can say were doomed.

 

Honestly I wish they focused on abilities over Gen 2. They need to fully implement the battle system before adding more generation cause abilities is a big part of what makes a pokemon. Gengar without levitate isn't the same and slaking without his ability is outright better than all pseudo legendary.
