I'm actually gonna disagree with this. Personally what I think they should do is allow fossil pokemon and porygon (I don't believe you can find him in the wild, correct me if I'm wrong) to be bought as fossils and have something special for porygon. These could be bought from the mystery man, or even found secretly in some way (Not sure what) at a high price. To be honest, I'm totally fine with shinies only being available to donors, because it doesn't provide any competitive or game advantage, whereas fossil pokemon and porygon do (I may consider using aerodactyl, but won't be able to without spending real money). Hats don't provide any advantage either, they are just aesthetic so that's completely cool with me and probably most other people too.
